How to Clean Your Matt Finish Basin

Aug 2022

As matt finish, satin basins are relatively new to bathroom design and increasingly in popularity rapidly, we often get asked “how do I clean my basin?” or “what products should I avoid?”. In this quick guide, we will cover everything from daily maintenance to damage prevention and suitable cleaning products.

Daily Maintenance

Taking care of the Cellini basin is quick and easy. Soap and water will be the most effective combination for everyday cleaning, common detergents can also be used to remove general stains and dirt that can deposit on the surface. We would especially recommend the use of gel detergents and abrasives used with an abrasive sponge, such as a Scotch Brite® sponge. Always make sure to rinse the surface generously as this will maintain the matt finish.

How To Prevent Damage

The surface of the Cellini basin already has general resistance to stains. Nevertheless, we do not recommend the use of aggressive chemicals such as acetone, trichloroethylene, strong acids or bases. Some substances such as ink, cosmetics and dyes, when in prolonged contact with the material, can release dyes. Minor damage such as stubborn stains, scratches and burns can be restored by using an abrasive sponge and common abrasive cleaner. If the damage is still visible, you can go over it with very fine abrasive (sanding) paper.

What Products Are Suitable?

Products we recommend include cream or powder detergents such as CIF®, VIM® or something similar that contain micro-granules that will abrade the surface. Denatured ethyl alcohol can be used as long as the basin is rinsed thoroughly before and after. The products that are NOT suitable, are solvents such as acetone or trichloroethylene and other harsh chemicals such as strong acids and strong bases, very aggressive substances for gushing sinks; solvents that might be used in the painting sector. If you’re unsure, test in a non-visible area before applying to the whole product.
